Spring early, Summer 24/7

First, Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow! Hurray! Early Spring.

I love the following article about the American Enterprise Institute, an Exxon funded think tank who is butt-buddies with the Bush administration, and how they tried to bribe scientists and economists NOT to publish their results on global warming. I love warm weather more than the next person, but honestly, I do not want DC to be ocean front.
Exxon is EVIL. They just posted record profits for 2006. No shit. Tell that to someone with a car and see if they are shocked.
Here are someways to help slow down global warming:
1. Turn off the lights! Every time you leave a room, turn off the lights. In quite a few areas, electricity is powered by fossil fuels. This saves money as well.
2. Buy energy efficient appliances and light bulbs. This too saves money.
3. Drive energy efficient cars. In my opinion, if you drive a big-ass SUV solely because of aesthetic reasons, then you deserve to pay high gas prices. Unless you have more than 3 children or dogs or haul lots of goods on a regular basis, you don't need an SUV. Don't bitch about the cost of filling up your tank. Hybrids are ideal. It doesn't make you a hippie, it makes you less of a sucker for Exxon, who is raking in YOUR money by the truckloads.
4. Carpool!
5. Take public transportation when possible.
6. Walk! This will save money and slim all at the same time.
7. Buy house plants. This will help with internal air quality. It is the little things people.
8. Buy local produce and dairy products. Local produce has done much less travelling in fossil fueled transportation vessels than their international or cross country counterparts. Plus, buying local produce ensures that U.S. pesticide levels were used, which are much more strict than those of Guatemala.
9. Buy plots of rain forest for presents instead of a useless basket of crap from Bath and Body Works. http://www.iracambi.com/english/forestfutures.shtml
10. Get politically involved. Vote for candidates who support enviro friendly measures. Write your Senators and Representatives at every level. Call the White House and bitch those bastards out.

Great tips! I've been phasing in energy-saver lightbulbs since summer. They cost a little more and with the coil, they're not as pretty as regular lightbulbs, but WHO CARES! You can't see it under the shade and I won't have to change it for another 5 years! 5 YEARS I TELL YOU!
